The
painting that
I would like to see added to your wonderful website is "Miss Eden"
painted
in 1905. This painting was included in the last 1999 Sargent Show at
The
National gallery of Art. It is unusual because it is a watercolor done
in the formal style of his oils, perhaps the only one he ever did in
this
style.

White
It IS unbelievably
beautiful
and like Bedouins,
1905-06, Sargent shows
the
finesse
and delicacy of the facial features in such a difficult medium but
still
retains the boldness in the rest of the painting -- Nat
Sargent would paint
Miss
Eden's
mother in 1906 and then sketch her again in 1910:
Lady Eden
1906
Sybil,
Lady Eden
1910

Special thanks go out
to the
The Pragmatic
Romanticist, a friend
of the JSS Gallery, for the image.
