In 1911 de Laszlo visited Welbeck Abbey, home of the Duke and Duchess of Portland, both of whom had already been painted by Sargent.  De Laszlo painted portraits of them both, and over the next twenty-six years he was to paint and draw numerous portraits of them and various members of their family. 

The above is a chalk drawing of the Duchess of Portland (dated 1911).  This is from an article in the "Studio Talk" section of The Studio magazine, Vol. LIX No. 246 (Sept. 1913), p. 300-305 regarding an exhibit of de László's works at Messrs. Agnew's.  

All to the painting to the left (with the exception of Duches of 1912) are copies of some portraits from The Duke of Portland's Men, Women, and Things: Memories of the Duke of Portland, K.G., G.C.V.O. (London: Faber & Faber, Ltd. 1937).    

The self-portrait featured at the front of  de Laszlo was painted and given to the Portlands in 1925.
