The painting was exhibited in 1907. It shows the entrance to John Singer Sargent's studio at 73 bis, rue Notre-Dame des Champs

The above was reproduced in the Philadelphia Museum of Art's new book (which I have just bought) on Italian Paintings in the Johnson Collection 1250-1450 on page 2 (fig. 3).
