Senator Calvin Stewart, (b 1845 - d 1898) Served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee, 1889; then one term as Senator from 1891-1897 as a Democrat from Ohio, did not run for reelection. Died five months after this painting in New York December 15, 1898.

Three-quarter-length standing portrait of Calvin Brice (1845-1898) holding a pair of eyeglasses in his right hand and a pair of gloves in his left hand, which is at his side. He wears a suit with a red flower in a buttonhole.
