Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, Virginia Oil on canvas 229.2 x 171.5 cm (90 1/4 x 67 1/2 in.) Inscribed: (Upper right:) John S. Sargent 1904 signed Accession Number: 71.502 The Countess (nee Wilma "Queenie" Pley-dell-Bouverie 1869-1931) married first Edward George, second Earl of Lathom in 1899. After his death in 1910, she married Lieutenant-General Sir Henry M. Lawson in 1912. Full-length seated portrait of the Countess of Lathom wearing a plum velvet gown with gauzy stole and a blue wrap. She wears a tiara and holds a jewelled necklace in her left hand. Ornaments and books are on a round table at left near a plinth and pillar with a draped curtain.
