Sybil Sasson,
Countess
of Rocksavage (later Marchioness of Cholmondeley) She married the
Earl of Rocksavage,
and they were later
Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley.[2]
Sir Philip Sasson
was Sybil's brother
and John Sketched and painted him as well.
Notes:
1)
From Matt: I'm
thinking this
painting was
executed around the
same time as the charcoal sketch as opposed
to the 1922 painting of her, both of which are already on your
site. There is
an entry in the
index compiled by the Pragmatic Romanticist that
132 -
Marchioness of Cholmondeley,
inscribed: To Sybil from her friend John S. Sargent 1913. 34 x 26 1/2,
Marchioness of Cholmondeley
and since that list
is titled 'Works
in Oil' I'm assuming it is not the charcoal
portrait, but is the one I have attached here.
2) from Edmund
Swinglehurst's John
Singer
Sargent, 2001.
Special thanks to
