The Three Graces
Edward Coley
Burne-Jones
-- (1833-1898) Pre-Raphaelelite
c. 1890-1896 Private collection Charcoal and pastel on brown paper 139 x 69.5 cm (54.72 x 27.36 in) sc ot tbu ckle@btopenworld.com Date: Sat, 26 Feb 2005 The drawing is a study for EBJ's 'Venus Concordia' in the Plymouth Museum. Sargent's treatment of the Three Graces also suggests familiarity with the works of John Flaxman, but goes beyond the constraints of neoclassical interpretations of the subject. John Singer Sargent The Three Graces Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Rotunda Bas-Relief 1921 Note: Special thanks to Scott Thomas Buckle, a friend of the JSS Gallery, for sending me the link and information.
