(later King George VI, r. 1936-1952) 1923 Private collection Charcoal Size? Jpg: Friend of the JSS Gallery
From: Matt Davies
These first two pics are from the Illustrated London News, April 28, 1923, which commemorated the wedding of the Duke of York (later King George VI r. 1936-1952) and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (later Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother), daughter of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore. Sargent's drawing of the Duke of York was a gift to the Duchess from the American Ambassador to Britain at the time. The drawing of the bride was given to her by Prince Paul of Serbia. The third picture is another drawing of Lady Elixabeth Bowes-Lyon which Sargent executed in 1923. Philip de Laszlo painted the Duke and Duchess in 1931: Philip Alexius de Laszlo 1931 Notes:

From: Natasha Dear Janet, As far as I know these
are the only
drawings done by Sargent of the Queen Mother. I don't believe there
were
any oils. Of course, notice the two paintings by de Laszlo.
