John remains in London until spring when Some General Officers of the Great War is finished. 

February 29, another friend dies -- this time its Ralph Curtis.

March: on the 29th he sails for Boston. 

October: more MFA decorations are delivered.

By November the murals for Widener Library at Harvard are installed -- Coming of the Americans and Death and Victory.

He Exhibits at the inaugural exhibition of the Baltimore Museum of Art, Maryland.

He works on the stairwell decorations in his Boston studio and paints Abbott Lawrence Lowell who is president of Harvard, one of the rare exception since giving up portraiture.

November, he begins to talk with the Grand Central Art Galleries, New York, for a retrospective exhibition of his work. 

December 9th, he sails for Liverpool and spends Christmas in London.

January: the Wertheimer portraits are donated and installed in the National Gallery, London. 

In his Fulham Road studio he works on the Boston museum staircase murals. 

Back in America with his sister Emily.

From February 23 thru March 22, a major exhibition of his work is held at the Grand Central Art Galleries, New York -- fifty-nine oils and twelve watercolors are shown, Sargent does not attend.

July 14, sails with Emily for England and three days later on the 17th, Isabella Stewart Gardner dies. 

Sargent has left United States for what would be the last time.
