Douglas Vickers (1861-1937) son of Colonel Thomas Edward Vickers. He had known Sargent since he was 23 when his father commissioned him to paint his sisters in the Misses Vickers.

When Sargent paints him here, Douglas is 53 years old. He married Katherine Chetwynd and they had four children: Oliver (1898-1928), Felicite (1901- died soon after), Sholto (b. 1902), and Angus (b.1904).
