John Singer Sargent -- American painter 1880-82 Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA Oil on canvas 68.3 x 87 cm (26 7/8 x 34 1/4 in.) Museum purchase, 1920 Jpg: Jim's Fine Art Collection
This is a good example of John's use of light in a picture. Notice the way it filters in from an unseen doorway at frame right, the light at the far end, as well as how light and shadows manifest themselves on the different figures.
